Celebratory fireworks by the Taliban rang out in Kabul as the last of the U.S. flights leave Afghanistan one day prior to the imposed deadline on Aug. 30.
The last flight took off only a minute before the clock struck midnight on Aug. 30 in Kabul. The departure of this flight marked an end to the 20-year-long conflict for the Taliban.
"Today President Biden speaks on humiliating Afghanistan surrender. You'll hear excuse: 'Trump made me do it.' Truth: All this, including massacre of U.S. troops, b/c Biden wanted to boast he ended war on 9-11 Anniversary," Rep. Kevin Brady tweeted.
In the final weeks, 13 service members died along with hundreds of civilians while evacuating the Afghans and Americans. As per the officials, the U.S. will no longer have any kind of presence in the land of Afghanistan, be it military or diplomatic.
"I'm here to announce the completion of our withdrawal from Afghanistan and the end of the mission to evacuate American citizens, third country nationals and vulnerable Afghans," said Marine Gen. Frank McKenzie in a virtual press conference.
At the same time, this withdrawal has received heavy criticisms from several people. The chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel, even labeled it as a "failed" withdrawal since it left many Americans behind.
"Joe Biden left Americans behind. His decision to cause this disaster and abandon Americans and our interests proves what we all already knew – Joe Biden is incapable of serving as Commander in Chief and the U.S. and the world are less safe because of him," McDaniel said.
The conflict in Afghanistan had initially started after the 9/11 attacks, and the withdrawal marks the end of the longest war America ever faced.
However, the departure of the U.S. troops has left the people of Afghanistan in an uncertain phase since the country is once again under the control of the Taliban.
Vice President Kamala Harris was spotted at the Senate Chambers when a bill was approved that increases repatriation funding to assist the thousands of Americans who were evacuated from Afghanistan.
