Greater Houston Partnership issued the following announcement on Aug. 31.

Data, Insight & Analysis

The Houston Airport System (HAS) handled 5.0 million passengers in July ’21, up from 1.4 million   in July ’20. This is the highest monthly total since December  ’19.

While passenger volumes remain below pre-pandemic levels, demand picked up in May, June and July ’21. Business travel finally began to recover in July, but that may be short-lived. The surge of positive cases for the Delta and other COVID-19 variants has forced many firms to again restrict business-related travel. Many airlines are reporting fewer bookings and higher cancellations.

July 21 HAS Chart

HAS handled 33.3 million passengers in the 12 months ending July ’21, a 15.7 percent decrease from the 39.5 million handled over the same period in ’20.

  • The 12-month international passenger volume totaled 5.1 million, down 32.6 percent from 7.5 million in the preceding 12 months.
  • Domestic volume totaled 28.3 million, an 11.7 percent decrease from 32.0 million.
