Activist Quanell X is calling on the community and public leaders to search for a 20-year-old female who has been missing for two weeks.
Shawtyeria Waites was last seen on July 27 on the 3900 block of Chimney Rock Road near Braeswood.
Houston City Councilwoman Abbie Kamin took to Twitter to urge the public to come forth with any information on the missing woman.
"Ms. Waites, 20 years old, was last seen in the 3900 block off Chimney Rock near N. Braeswood,” she wrote. “Her family believes she was kidnapped. If you have any information please report to @houstonpolice Missing Persons Unit at 832-394-1840 or 911."
According to ABC 13, Waites was last seen about two weeks ago on the night of her birthday in southwest Houston.
Waites was reportedly accompanied by two females at the time of her disappearance who the news station reported met a man while at a club earlier that night.
Quanell X said that the man invited them to an apartment complex in the southwest area of the city.
"This is not to disparage anyone, but the young girls had been dancing at a nightclub, and they thought that they might want to come here and make a few extra dollars," Quanell X said during a press conference on Aug. 8 that ABC 13 covered. "[The man] had large sums of money on him and was spending large sums of money at the strip club."
Waites went into the apartment alone with the man while the two females went to a nearby store, but they never heard from Waites again and Quanell X believes Waites was enticed to the apartment by a man with bad intentions.
"This beautiful young black sister goes into this apartment complex and completely disappears off the human radar screen," he said. "We believe this sister was met with foul play. We believe the man they met at the club never was a friendly man, never had friendly intentions. We believe that this was a trap to lure and kidnap these girls."
