Gov. Greg Abbott recently praised job growth in the state in a press release after the release of June employment data by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
According to Abbott's press release, the TWC reported that businesses generated 55,800 new positions in June, marking job growth in 13 of the previous 14 months, while the unemployment rate fell to 6.5% as more Texans returned to the workforce.
“The Texas economy is booming,” Abbott stated in the press release. "Businesses are investing in the Lone Star State at a record pace because we've built a framework that allows free enterprise to flourish and hardworking Texans to prosper."
Abbott also stated that the TWC data demonstrates how the state's "young, growing and skilled workforce" has created a diverse and resilient economy, with Texas businesses creating more than 1.1 million jobs since April 2020.
"That surge in hiring continues today with as many jobs posted on TWC’s job sites as Texans looking for work," Abbott said. "I encourage every Texan looking for new or better employment to use the free job matching resources available to them from TWC, because Texas works when Texans work.”
Additionally, the TWC's June data increased the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas' projection for Texas employment growth to 5.6% in 2021, according to a report by NBC DFW.
"Our greatest natural resource is the people of Texas," Abbott stated on Twitter. "And it is because of the hardworking people of this great state that we are building an even stronger, more prosperous Texas of tomorrow."
According to a report from KABB, Texas gained 267,400 jobs in June.
However, KABB also noted that even as the jobless rate continues to decline, there are plenty of job opportunities in the state.
Currently, there are over 930,000 open positions in the 866,000 job listings on MyTXCareer.com, a website designed to help residents discover employment in Texas, according to Abbott's press release.
