Cynthia Ann Laursen
DECEMBER 19, 1945 – JULY 28, 2021
Cynthia "Cindy” Ann Laursen, born Cynthia Looney, died peacefully on July 28, 2021, at the age of 75. Cindy is survived by her husband, Chris Nels Laursen; her daughter Kristin Trindle and husband Richard of Knoxville, Tennessee; her daughter Dr. Kerry Annette Laursen and husband Karl Greb of Sugar Land, TX; her daughter Katrina Misley of Concord, New Hampshire; and her four beloved grandchildren, Andrew Greb, Zoey Greb, Cora Misley and Isaac Misley.
She is preceded in death by her parents. Cindy was born on December 19, 1945 in Amarillo, Texas to Herman and Virginia Looney. Throughout her childhood, she lived in New Mexico, Kansas, and Amarillo. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Amarillo, in 1963, and has maintained a friendship with all 30-odd members of her all-female class. In 1967, she graduated from West Texas State University, and began her teaching career in Los Alamos, NM. She returned to Amarillo when her father’s eyesight began to fail. While taking her students on a tour of local power plant, she met a handsome engineer named Chris Laursen, whom she married on November 21, 1971.
The couple continued to live in Amarillo, where they welcomed their three daughters, Kristin, Kerry, and Katrina. In 2006, Chris and Cindy moved to Missouri City, TX, where Cindy had the joy of spending her days with her first grandchild Andrew. Cindy was active in several groups in the Sugar Land and Missouri City area, including her neighborhood sewing club, the Ebbtide Theresians, and Sugar Land Cancer support group.
Cindy was an accomplished educator, with a deep love and talent for working with young children. She frequently volunteered at her children’s schools and received a lifetime achievement award for service to the local Parent Teacher Association. She loved art and literature; she knew many poems by heart and was a voracious reader. Above all, she was a kind and outgoing woman who poured out love to everyone she encountered.
She was a devout Catholic with a deep love of her Lord. Her greatest passion was for her grandchildren; she was an involved and enthusiastic “Nana.” A funeral is scheduled for 11 am on Tuesday, August 3rd at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Sugar Land, TX. Visitation will be held the evening before the funeral, from 5 to 7 pm, at The Settegast-Kopf Co @ Sugar Land Funeral Directors. Light refreshments will be served at the visitation, and we will say a rosary at 6:30 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Cindy's life. The family kindly asks that those attending Cindy’s services wear a mask.
