Sally May Roesler
December 8, 1934 – July 26, 2021
Sally May Gulley Roesler was born on December 8, 1934, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Neva Irene McCoy Gulley and Jess Craton Gulley. She departed this life on Monday, July 26, 2021, at home with her family gathered around her. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary Albert Roesler of 56 years, her grandson, Justin Michael Roesler, brothers Jerry and David Gulley, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Sally and her family moved to Houston when she was 3. She lived in Houston, Texas for most of her life. She graduated from the Aldine High School in 1953. Shortly after graduating from high school, her aunt got her a job at Humble (which is now ExxonMobil) as a key punch operator. One of Sally’s favorite things to do on her lunch hour was to help other girls, with new hair styles. She would even put permanents in their hair. She had a knack for that. She had many hobbies besides that, she took oil painting lessons, which she took to naturally, along with watercolor painting, ceramics, sewing, silk ribbon embroidery, cross stitch, needlepoint, growing African violets for competition, making greeting cards, doing miniature pictures, along with puzzles, she was extremely talented and loved sharing this talent with others.
While working at Humble, she and a girlfriend, Joyce Weaver started carpooling with an older gentleman, by the name of Albert Roesler, who was also working at Exxon. She would drive her car to his house so that Mrs. Roesler could use if she needed too. She and Joyce would ride with Mr. Roesler into downtown. Mrs. Roesler wrote her eldest son, Gary, who was traveling for his job about a lovely auburn-haired young lady that was carpooling with his father. On October 8, 1958, Gary called Sally and asked her to the University of Houston football game on October 10th, she said yes and according to her he nearly beat her to death due to the exciting game. Their romance continued throughout the winter months of 1958. On December 8, 1958, which is also Sally’s birthday, Gary asked her, “If she thought she could spend the rest of her life with a crazy guy like him?” She said, “I think so.” They were married on April 10, 1959, from the time they met to their wedding day, they only had 9 dates.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her three children and spouses: Timothy Craton Roesler and wife Shalla; Susan Kay Phillips, Michael Albert Roesler and wife Janette. Along with eight grandchildren and spouses: Stephanie and Trey Taylor, Christopher Phillips, Samantha Roesler, Sean and Elysia Phillips, Amanda Roesler, Taylor Roesler, Gary Phillips, and Kristin Roesler.
