Francis Lawrence Hanigan

Dr. Francis L Hanigan, 85, of Spring, Texas passed away peacefully on July 9, 2021. He will be deeply missed by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Joyce, his brother James, his 5 children and 11 grandchildren. Frank was born on July 16, 1935 to Francis and Loretta Hanigan. He graduated from West Point in May of 1957 and in June of that year he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Joyce Hart. Hanigan was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for graduate school at The Ohio State, where he earned his doctorate in geodetic science and in 2016 he was recognized by The Ohio State University as one of their most distinguished alumni. Hanigan concluded his military career as a lieutenant colonel and commander of the 30th Engineer Battalion. Frank was a decorated Vietnam veteran and his many military awards include two Bronze Stars and two Meritorious Service Medals, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, an Army Commendation Medal and an Air Medal.

Frank loved to travel visiting all 50 states, dozens of different countries and six of the seven continents. For his 75th birthday he traveled to Antarctica with his 3 sons and 2 sons-in-law. He also enjoyed swimming, boating and playing with his grandchildren. He was a pack master for scout troops in Rhode Island and Hawaii and has served as a parish council member, building committee chairman, lector and Eucharistic minister in Catholic parishes around the world.
