Jesse Escobar Sanchez, Sr.

February 1, 1947 – July 5, 2021

Jesse Escobar Sanchez, Sr. ,74, passed away after a courageous battle on July 5, 2021. Jesse was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, doting great grandfather, and loyal friend.

Jesse was born on February 1st, 1947 in Alvin, TX to parents Augustine Sanchez and Vitoriana Escobar. The highlight of his teenage years was a birthday party he attended in 1964. It was there he met Maria Amador, and it was love at first sight. Only two weeks later, Jesse said he couldn’t live without Maria any longer, so they eloped. They wed on May 23rd, 1964 in Shiner, TX and began their wonderful life together. After moving to Sugar Land, Jesse and Maria began their family. In quick succession, they welcomed six sons: Joseph, Rickie, Jesse Jr., Prudencio, Tony, and Marky. As a father, Jesse was loving and affectionate. He was active in his children’s lives, set good examples for them to follow, and always provided for their needs. His kind and generous spirit made him respected and loved among the boys’ friends as well, and many of them considered him a second father.

Jesse worked a variety of jobs before finding his true calling as a driver for TXI. During his 38 years at TXI, Jesse earned numerous honors and awards including the Safe Driver Award of Honor (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006) and Driver of the Year (2006, 2008). In 2014, three years after receiving a prestigious award for 35 years of dedicated service to TXI, Jesse Sr. retired.

Jesse spent his days enjoying time with his family, gardening, and caring for a variety of pets. He was a sports fan and especially loved bowling with his family. In the evenings, Jesse was found sitting in his recliner listening to The Beatles, George Strait, or humming along to “My Maria” or “Amazing Grace”. Most importantly, Jesse was a devout Catholic. He started each day reading from his bible, and his unshakeable faith guided him until the end.

Jesse was preceded in death by his parents Augustine and Vitoriana and his oldest son, Joseph. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years Maria; his five sons Rickie (Irma), Jesse Jr. (Diane), Prudencio, Tony (Patience), and Marky (Angelica); his grandchildren Nicole, Justin, Korrina, Prudencio Jr., Lauren, Marcus, Cora, Hunter, Katelyn, McKenna, Madison, Carter, Shane, Kennedy, Colton, and Grayson; his great grandchildren Bailey, Wyatt, and Hendrix; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed greatly by all those who love him.

Jesse was a proud supporter of all branches of the United States military. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hope for the Warriors in memory of Jesse.
