Frito-Lay, the Plano-based food production company, has received approval to expand their facility in Rosenberg by the Fort Bend County Commissioners Court, which will bring more jobs and economic activity to the area.
This expansion promises to be great news for the area, as it will generate at least 160 new positions.
"Just last Tuesday on June 8, Commissioner's Court approved Frito-Lay to create 160 additional jobs and invest $200+ million in Rosenberg. We are so excited for this expansion," Fort Bend County Judge KP George tweeted.
The facility at Rosenberg currently provides employment for more than 750 individuals, and the expansion will bring that number to nearly 1,000.
"The Rosenberg site has the largest footprint of any Frito-Lay facility in Texas, producing snacks for Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas and Georgia, and several other parts of the country when we hit times of peak demand," Laura Maxwell, senior vice president of supply chain for PepsiCo Foods North America, said.
The project will cost $200 million in upgrades as the plant makes necessary changes to create two new manufacturing lines for their beloved Funyuns and tortilla chips.
"We've called Rosenberg home for nearly 40 years. Throughout that time, the support of Fort Bend County has helped us invest in the right areas so that we can continue to grow and provide jobs to the community," Maxwell said.
This will be the second investment which the company has made to the Rosenberg facility since 2019’s $138 million Cheetos expansion.
The company has multiple deadlines that they will meet for the expansion project. First, they must complete their expansion work by the end of 2023 and secondly, their new workforce of 160 individuals must be in place by New Years 2025.
Frito-Lay continues to be a force for good in the Houston area, with multiple initiatives in the community.
