Donita D. Choate

1927-2021

Chances are that if you know me or one of my sisters, you knew, and probably loved our mom. She was extraordinarily maternal and a teller of great stories, most of which featured her as the object of some hilarious life experience. While our family had some heavy crosses to bear regarding illnesses, she often remarked about how truly blessed she felt.

Blessed to have had Hattie Chloe and Haymond Davis as her parents and Rankon, Dick, Jim, Bette, Sis and Teddy as siblings. Anytime there were two or more of them together, you were going to laugh until you cried, as they shared tales from their childhood. She felt blessed to have been married to Bill for 49 years until he died in 2001 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.

Because of their thriftiness and love for their children and grandchildren they have been fortunate to enjoy many of the luxuries that life has to offer. Most of the time (just being honest) she felt blessed to have her three daughters Cynthia, Catherine and Elizabeth and their families share her journey on this Earth. She felt so blessed to have gotten to spend many years watching and loving her grandchildren, Emma and Will Christopherson and Alex and Sarah Vejnoska and even one great grandchild, Rei Vejnoska.

And rarely did a day go by that she didn't remark about how blessed she was to have her dear niece, Nancy Landrum (and her daughter, Leslie) live with and care for her in her final years of life. As well as the privilege of having Gilda Norris step in to help, whenever Nancy would take a well-deserved break.

Mom loved raising her children along side the other wonderful families on Olympia and Meadowlake in Briarcroft and later on on Holly Springs in Tanglewood where she cherished her many dear friends; especially those she and Bill travelled, played golf and fished with; those who watched many a breathtaking sunset with them in Galveston; her tennis, bridge and walking buddies; the St. Martin's Church Saintly Stitchers and Blanket Ladies, and the Beanie Babies (extended family that got together to reminisce over beans and cornbread) -all of whom she looks forward to reuniting with now or when their time comes. Who could ask for anything more out of life?

Mom missed the birth of her second great grandchild by a day, but we know she spent the hours while they were transitioning into their respective new journeys loving and preparing Charlie.

The family invites friends to celebrate Donita's life at a visitation at Geo. H. Lewis on Bering on Monday, June 7th from 3 to 5pm followed by a private funeral service and inurnment ceremony.

To honor her life, Donita asks that you do something nice for someone else and/or if so inclined, donate to The Westview School for children who have autism, 1900 Kersten Dr, Houston, Tx 77043.
