Ellen Jane Rushing

Ellen Jane Rushing, 69 of Houston, Texas formerly of Chautauqua, Kansas was born November 1, 1951 to Sylvester May and Millie (Sumner) Spire and passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 in Pasadena, Texas. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who was active in her home church, New Life Baptist Church, member and past president of Sedan Business Women; volunteered and lead Bible study at the Pleasant Valley Manner nursing home; Town Librarian for Sedan Kansas and enjoyed heading up the summer reading program with the children and working with the community; she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible School for many years.
Ellen is survived by her son, Kyle Rushing and wife, Jennifer; granddaughters, Emma and Aaliya; brothers, DeWayne Spire and wife, Hazel; Dennis Spire and wife, Brenda along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Millie Spire.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Monument Baptist Church with visitation being held Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Grand View Funeral Home from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Ellen will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 29, 2021 in her home town.
