Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Weisenfelder Collins

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Weisenfelder Collins died at the age of 100 on May 15, 2021. She was born in New Orleans, LA on Nov. 30, 1920 to Helen and Carl Weisenfelder. After moving to Texas, she graduated from St. Anthony High School in Beaumont. She attended Texas State College for Women in Denton. In Beaumont, she met her devoted husband of 69 years, Robert Lee Collins.
They married on Oct.12,1940 and raised their two daughters in Beaumont before moving to Houston in 1970. In Beaumont, Betty was an active volunteer with St. Anne's Catholic Church, the Campfire Girls, and St. Elizabeth Hospital. After moving to Houston, she joined the Auxiliary at St. Joseph Hospital where she was a volunteer for 36 years. She was also a member of the Charity Guild of Catholic Women.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Collins; her parents; her beloved daughter, Beth Yanowski; son-in-law, Mike Yanowski; brother, Carl Weisenfelder; and sisters, Helen Lau and Adelaide Phinney.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Thaler, and husband, Bruce; granddaughter, Emily Brown, and husband, Wade; granddaughter, Laura Richard, and husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Garrett Reynolds, Cassidy Richard, Virginia Richard, and Josephine Richard; sister, Loretta McKinley; and brother, AJ Weisenfelder and wife, Lee. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary and visitation will be held at Forest Park Westheimer,12800 Westheimer Rd., on Sun., May 23rd from 1-3 PM. A funeral Mass will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 625 Nottingham Oaks Trail, on Mon., May 24th at 10:30 AM.
