Charles met the love of his life, Sue, at church in Laurel, Mississippi. They were married for 66 years. He loved his family and with much love supported Sue in her endeavors along with his children in their activities by coaching, caddying, and cheering from the stands. The game of golf was a passion he enjoyed with friends and family for many years past retirement. He also loved to hunt with his family and friends and said it was all about the hunt – not how many you got.

Charles loved Jesus and was active in the church. He loved people and reached out to them through First Baptist Pasadena for over 35 years. While at First Baptist, he was ordained as a deacon. In 1998 Charles and Sue moved their membership to South Main Baptist Pasadena where Charles continued to touch many lives as he served his Lord.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force 1951-1953. He came home to once again join his father in the grocery business. He began his career with NASA in 1962 and moved to Pasadena, Texas. He was a Budget Analyst assigned to the Administrative Directorate. His last assignment before retirement was Budget Analyst in Mission Control.

Charles retired from NASA in 1990. He then worked part time at Pasadena Funeral Chapel. Later, he served under Commissioner Jim Fonteno and Sylvia Garcia at Harris County Precinct 2.

His love of his community included service in the Pasadena Jaycees, Good Morning Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Pasadena Civil Service Commission, Pasadena Community Ministries, Pasadena Citizen Advisory Council, Economic Alliance Houston Port Region and the Harris County Appraisal Board. He served in many leadership positions and was honored by many organizations throughout his lifetime.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Pasadena Community Ministries (PCM, P. O. Box 4954, Pasadena, TX 77502-4954), Deacon Crisis Ministry (Deacon Crisis Ministry, 4300 East Sam Houston Pkwy S., Pasadena, TX 77505) or a charity of your choice.
