Governor Greg Abbott has taken proactive measures to address the impending severe weather and river flooding threats in Texas. In response to the forecasted challenges, Governor Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to elevate the readiness level of the Texas State Emergency Operations Center to Level II (Escalated Response).
Abbott emphasized the state's preparedness, stating, "Texas stands ready to quickly deploy all available resources necessary to help communities across Texas as severe weather and flooding impacts our state." He also issued a crucial reminder to the public, saying, "Remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown."
The National Weather Service has warned of moderate-to-major river flooding expected in the eastern half of the state over the next few weeks. Additionally, severe weather conditions, including excessive rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, are anticipated throughout Texas during the upcoming weekend. The risks encompass flooding, large hail, damaging winds, and potential tornadoes.
In light of the situation, various agencies have been called upon to ensure their resources are prepared for deployment as needed. Among them are organizations such as the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Texas National Guard.
